Volkswagen: to extend partnership with Microsoft

(CercleFinance.com) - Volkswagen and Microsoft announced on Thursday that they were going to extend their partnership, with both groups now planning to accelerate the development of autonomous driving.


Under the terms of the agreement, VW's Car.Software subsidiary will create, with the help of Microsoft, a platform dedicated to the development of automated driving functions.

With this "cloud" platform, VW intends to simplify its development processes by using Microsoft Azure, the Microsoft's application platform.

In 2018, Volkswagen and Microsoft entered into a strategic collaboration on the "Volkswagen Automotive Cloud", a large-scale cloud computing project for the digital automotive services of the future.

The first vehicles resulting from the collaboration should be tested this year, with production set to begin in 2022.
