Volkswagen: invests in two Stratasys 3D printers

(CercleFinance.com) - Volkswagen has invested in two colour, multi-material 3D printers from Stratasys to help drive new vehicle design, the companies said on Tuesday.


The German auto giant said the installation of the 3D printers will allow "ultra-realistic" prototypes for both interior and exterior applications.

These prototypes can mirror final production parts with up to 99% precision, a level of accuracy that will enable the carmaker to better test part designs, the companies said.

Stratasys traditionally sells industrial printers that are worth between 10,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars. Its shares were up over 6% on this news on the Nasdaq on Tuesday.
