Volkswagen: EU sends statement of objections over emissions

(CercleFinance.com) - European Union antitrust regulators have sent BMW, Daimler and VW a statement of objections because they believe that the three German carmakers restricted competition on emission cleaning technology.


The European Commission today informed the auto giants of its preliminary view that they breached EU antitrust rules from 2006 to 2014 by colluding to restrict competition on the development of technology to clean the emissions of petrol- and diesel-engine passenger cars.

The executive arm of the EU said BMW, Daimler and VW participated "in a collusive scheme" that has limited the roll-out of emission cleaning technology for new diesel and petrol passenger cars sold in Europe.

If the Commission concludes that there is sufficient evidence of an infringement, it could fine the car makers up to 10% of their annual sales.
