Volkswagen: 2018 deliveries reach a new record

(CercleFinance.com) - Volkswagen bucked the trend in the downbeat automotive market last year, posting record sales for 2018, notably driven by outperformance in China, its biggest market.


The German car maker delivered a total of 10.8 million vehicles to customers in 2018, 0.9% more than in 2017.

The group said its passenger car deliveries increased by 0.6%, compared to a 1.2% drop in the global passenger car market.

Looking forward, VW said it anticipates "positive momentum" in 2019, thanks to the launch of over 90 new models, although warned that it is facing three key challenges.

The group cited the economic environment, the impact of the reduction in fleet CO2 emissions as well as the next stage in WLTP vehicle test procedures.

VW shares were down 1.5% in Frankfurt after these figures were published.
