Siemens: picked by US Amtrak for locomotive order

(CercleFinance.com) - US passenger rail operator Amtrak has decided to order 75 diesel-electric locomotives from Germany's Siemens in a deal worth 744 million euros.


Siemens Mobility has been awarded the contract to design and manufacture the locomotives that will power trains used on lines spanning the United States, such as Washington DC-Orlando, or Chicago-San Francisco.

Delivery of the new locomotives will begin in the summer of 2021, with all locomotives set to be in service by 2024.

The locomotives will be manufactured at Siemens' rail manufacturing plant in Sacramento.
