Daimler: buys battery cells for 20 billion euros

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler plans to buy battery cells of over 20 billion euros as the German carmaker is working on 130 electrified variants of its Mercedes-Benz cars by 2022.


By 2022, the entire Mercedes portfolio is to be electrified, with several electrified alternatives available in every segment, from the smart line to the SUVs, the group said.

In addition, Daimler plans to offer a whole range of electric vans, buses and trucks.

By 2025, sales of battery-electric vehicles are to increase to 15%-25% of total unit sales, Daimler said.
