Daimler: Ola Källenius in the driver's seat from 2019

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler, owner of the Mercedes-Benz brand, said it has named its head of research, Ola Källenius, as chairman of its management board, effective in 2019.


He will succeed Dieter Zetsche, who will step down from his position at the Daimler's board and as head of Mercedes-Benz cars after the company's AGM in 2019.

After the expiry of his term of office in 2021, Manfred Bischoff, chairman of the group's supervisory board, will recommend the election of Dieter Zetsche as his successor, taking effect at the end of the AGM in 2021, the carmaker said.

The Stuggart-based group has appointed Ola Källenius for a term of five years as chairman of Daimler's management board and has also appointed him as the head of the Mercedes-Benz cars division.

The Swedish businessman, who is 50 years old, was appointed to Daimler's board in 2015, before he became board member for group Research and Mercedes-Benz cars development in 2017.
