Infineon: acquires GaN Systems in Canada

(CercleFinance.com) - Infineon Technologies announced on Friday that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire GaN Systems, a Canadian power semiconductor manufacturer, for 830 million dollars.


Based in Ottawa, GaN Systems produces gallium nitride power transistors for power conversion applications in sectors such as consumer electronics, renewable energy and automotive.

Stifel analysts believe that the price paid for this 200-employee was high - although it is a strategic acquisition.

Infineon expects the market for gallium nitride applications to reach two billion dollars by 2027, representing an average annual growth rate of 56%.

Infineon shares were up 1.7% in Frankfurt following this acquisition.
