BMW: first-half sales drop 23%

(CercleFinance.com) - BMW's global sales fell by almost a quarter in the first half of the year, hit by the impact of the pandemic and the effects of temporary closures of its retail outlets.

The German premium carmaker said that group vehicle sales fell by 23% to 962,575 units in the first six months of the year, with sales at the flagship BMW brand down 21.7%, the company said on Friday.

Sales of Mini cars also fell 31.1%, while deliveries of luxury Rolls-Royce limousines dropped by 37.6%.

On a positive note, BMW said it is seeing a "positive development" in China, where second-quarter sales once again were up relative to the previous year.

The share was up 0.7% in Frankfurt on Tuesday morning after these comments.
