ABB: upgrades 76 Deutsche Bahn locomotives
(CercleFinance.com) - Today ABB announced that it has won a major order from the German railway operator Deutsche Bahn to upgrade its first flagship series of high-speed InterCity Express (ICE 1) trains.
The contract is part of a refurbishment program and includes the upgrade of 76 high-speed locomotives. It will involve replacing electronics from the 1990s with state-of-the-art traction technology. ABB traction converters have already been successfully deployed in a first batch of 40 upgraded ICE 1 high-speed locomotives in 2010.
