ABB: completes wastewater treatment project in Shanghai

(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss engineering giant ABB said that it has completed the supply of medium- and low-voltage digital equipment for the expansion of a wastewater treatment plant in Shanghai.

As the expansion of the facility included the deployment of more advanced wastewater treatment processes, ABB's gear will supply power for processes such as phosphorus removal, chlorination and UV light disinfection, the power-equipment and automation company said.

As part of the deal, ABB also designed a custom power management scheme to ensure ongoing operations during the facility's upgrade, it added.

The Shanghai Bailonggang wastewater treatment plant is the largest sewage treatment plant in Asia and one of the largest in the world.

With a capacity of 2.8 million cubic meters per day, the facility handles around a third of the municipal wastewater produced by the Shanghai metropolitan area, serving more than 7 million residents.
