Roche: antiviral Xofluza effective at preventing flu

(CercleFinance.com) - Roche said that the oral medicine Xofluza has proved to be effective at preventing flu infection in Phase III clinical trials conducted by its Japanese partner Shionogi.


The study met its primary endpoint, showing that people exposed to a household member with influenza and treated preventively with Xofluza were significantly less likely to develop the illness compared to those treated with placebo (1.9% versus 13.6%).

Xofluza -which is currently approved in Japan for the treatment of influenza types A and B - has been discovered by Shionogi and is now being further developed in collaboration with Roche.

Also note that yesterday, Roche's Japanese unit Chugai launched a next-generation sequencing based gene mutation analysis program, now providing testing services.
