Novartis: completes purchase of Aspen GI's business in Japan

(CercleFinance.com) - Sandoz, Novartis' generics division, announces that it has completed the acquisition of the Japanese business of Aspen Global Incorporated, a subsidiary of Aspen Pharmacare, in accordance with the agreement signed last November.


For the record, the agreement provides for an initial payment of 300 million euros, to which could be added deferred payments of up to 100 million euros. Aspen's portfolio in Japan, which has approximately 20 products, represents annual sales of 130 million euros.

This transaction enables Sandoz to strengthen its position in Japan, the world's third largest market for generics, as well as strengthening its presence on the hospital channel by acquiring a dedicated organisation in the country.
