Swisscom: 2017 results in line with expectations

(CercleFinance.com) - Swisscom generated 2017 revenue and profit that were in line with the previous year in an increasingly competitive market, the Swiss telecoms operator said on Wednesday.


Swisscom's net revenue was stable at 11,662 million Swiss francs last year, as was its net profit, which also remained virtually unchanged at 1,568 million Swiss francs.

While these numbers are broadly in line with expectations, shares were performing well this morning in Zurich, as pressure in Switzerland is now offset by cost savings and Fastweb, investors said.

Fastweb is performing well, indeed. Swisscom's Italian broadband company saw net revenue rise by 8.3% last year.

Another positive, Swisscom said capital expenditure fell to 20.4% of net revenue, compared with 20.8% in 2016, despite network expansion.

Listed on the SMI index, Swisscom shares were up 2.4% after this report.
