GBL: co-owner Albert Frere dies at 92

(CercleFinance.com) - Belgian billionaire and GBL co-owner Albert Frere has died at the age of 92, the holding company said in a statement on Monday.


Frere contributed to the development of GBL, in collaboration with the Desmarais family, since joining the group in 1982 and was one of the two of the company's joint controlling shareholders since 1990, GBL said.

Frere's more notable investments included Total, GDF Suez and even LafargeHolcim.

With a net worth of 5.2 billion euros, he was considered as the richest man in Belgium.
