BAE Systems: successfully tests autonomous submarine
(CercleFinance.com) - BAE Systems announces that its Herne autonomous submarine, designed for military missions, has been successfully tested off the south coast of England.
This very large underwater vehicle (XLAUV) uses the Nautomate autonomous system for surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
Herne stands out for its ability to patrol longer than manned vessels, thanks to the absence of the need for refuelling or life support systems.
BAE Systems, in partnership with Cellula Robotics, developed this submarine in just 11 months, demonstrating its efficiency in creating autonomous solutions.
Further tests will be carried out to fine-tune Herne to customer requirements.
