Pfizer: EU clears sale of consumer health unit, on condition
(CercleFinance.com) - Pfizer on Thursday won approval from the European Commission to sell its consumer health business to Britain's GlaxoSmithKline, subject to conditions.
After the Commission expressed concerns that the acquisition would reduce competition for topical pain management products, the companies offered to divest Pfizer's pain relieving cream brand ThermaCare.
For topical pain management products, GSK sells the Volta-branded products, which are mainly marketed as medicated gel, creams, spray, and also patches.
