Nvidia: buys high-performance computing rival Mellanox
(CercleFinance.com) - Nvidia confirmed on Monday the acquisition of its main rival in high-performance computing, Mellanox Technologies, for 6.
9 billion dollars.
The graphics chipmaker said that it will acquire all of Mellanox's issued and outstanding common shares for 125 dollars per share in cash.
Both companies said that their platform will power over half of the world's top 500 supercomputers, with clients including every major cloud service provider and computer maker.
The move comes as workloads in AI, scientific computing and data analytics are growing at an exponential rate.
The deal is expected to be immediately accretive to Nvidia's margins and earnings, it said.
This comes after reports Intel had offered 5.6 billion dollars for Mellanox.
