Netflix: market not convinced by Sony deal
(CercleFinance.com) - Netflix shares were down 1% in early trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Friday after the US streaming giant signed a multi-year broadcast agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Under the terms of the agreement, the video-on-demand platform will have priority rights to broadcast Sony Pictures films after their cinema and Blu-ray/DVD releases, starting in 2022.
The partnership will enable the platform to broadcast movies as premiers, such as the superhero film "Morbius" starring Jared Leto, the video game adaptation "Uncharted" starring Tom Holland and the thriller "Bullet Train" starring Brad Pitt and Lady Gaga, starting next year.
Also included are the planned sequels to the two superhero franchises "Spider-Man" and "Venom", as well as new productions adapted from "Jumanji" and Bad Boys.
