Merck: makes equity investment in biotech partner Moderna
(CercleFinance.com) - US drugmaker Merck and US biotech firm Moderna Therapeutics said on Thursday that they planned to expand their collaboration to develop novel personalized messenger RNA (mRNA) cancer vaccines, with Merck making an equity investment in Moderna.
The partnership will now include mRNA-5671, Moderna's mRNA KRAS cancer vaccine, with Merck responsible for its clinical development.
Both companies will also advance in human studies and plan to conduct combination studies with additional immuno-oncology therapies.
Under the expanded agreement, Merck will make a 125 million dollar investment in Moderna in the form of newly priced preference shares.
Based on this data, Merck has submitted a supplemental license application to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
