GE: supports Spain's greenhouse gas reduction efforts
(CercleFinance.com) - Red Electrica de Espana has awarded a contract to GE Grid Solutions for ten mobile substations to power the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, GE said on Wednesday.
The mobile nature of these substations will make it possible to transport the units in case of emergency or restoration.
For the first time in Spain, one of these substations will use GE's g3 (Green Gas for Grid) technology, an alternative to sulphur hexafluoride (SF). This post will be located on the island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.
g3 products have a significantly lower CO2 impact on the environment compared to SF products, GE says. As such, the g³ mobile station will contribute to Spain's efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20% by 2030.
