Ford: to boost SUV production on higher demand
(CercleFinance.com) - Ford said on Monday that it will boost production for its Expedition and Navigator vehicles by 20% this summer as the two large sport utility vehicles continue to win market share from competitors in the large SUV segment.
The US carmaker plans to add 550 jobs at its Kentucky truck plant, while moving approximately the same number of jobs from its Louisville assembly plant, it said.
Retail sales for the Expedition eight-passenger SUV surged 35% last year and gained 5.6 percentage points on the SUV market segment, Ford said. Its average transaction price has increased by 11,700 dollars to a current level of 62,700 dollars.
Navigator sales grew 70% in 2018, resulting in its best sales year since 2007, Ford added.
