Boeing: sustainable fuel study in Southeast Asia
(CercleFinance.com) - Boeing has announced that it is conducting a joint study with the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) to expand the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Southeast Asia.
SAF has the potential to reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to petroleum-based jet fuel.
While the current global supply of SAF represents only about 0.1% of jet fuel consumption, the Asia-Pacific region can play a crucial role in SAF production, with a potential of 40% of global feedstock supply, Boeing says.
The first phase of the study will assess whether SAF production could develop sustainably in South East Asia depending on the availability and sustainability of raw materials in the region.
The results of the study will provide a set of evidence-based and data-driven recommendations to promote the SAF industry in Southeast Asia, Boeing adds.
