Boeing: successful test of Space Launch System (Core Stage)

(CercleFinance.com) - Boeing has announced that the testing of the cryogenic core stage of the Space Launch System (SLS) designed for NASA has been completed, with the group saying that test data validated the proper operation of the core stage.

The Boeing-built SLS Core Stage is fuelled by liquid hydrogen and oxygen tanks powering four RS-25 engines built by Aerojet Rocketdyne, together producing 1.6 million pounds of thrust.

The complete launch vehicle will be mobilised on the first mission of NASA's Artemis program, an unmanned test flight around the moon in preparation for manned missions.

Only the SLS has the power to launch its crew and cargo to the moon and enable sustained lunar exploration, Boeing says.
