Apple: cuts App Store commission for small businesses

(CercleFinance.com) - Apple said on Wednesday that it is going to cut commission for App Store small developers earning less than one million dollars per year from 30% to 15%.

The tech giant said the move comes as small and independent developers face a period of "unprecedented global economic challenge" due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The program's reduced commission means small developers and aspiring entrepreneurs will have more resources to invest in and grow their businesses in the App Store ecosystem," the company pointed out.

In a statement, Apple said that the cut will benefit the vast majority of developers who sell digital goods and services on its platform.

In 2019 alone, the App Store ecosystem generated 519 billion dollars in sales, with over 85% of that total coming from third-party developers and businesses.
