Apple: APP Store ecosystem, a 500 billion dollar baby

(CercleFinance.com) - Apple has announced that the entire ecosystem relating to its online app store App Store has generated 519 billion dollars in sales and billings in 2019.

According to a study commissioned by the Californian tech giant, most of this figure (413 billion dollars, or 80% of the total) comes from sales of physical goods or services made through applications offered on the platform, such as those of US retailers Target and Best Buy.

Then comes invoicing from purely digital goods and services (61 billion dollars, or 12% of the total), which includes, among other things, digital books, audio and video streaming, and particularly video game downloads.

Finally, in-app advertising from free applications, such as Twitter and Pinterest, represents a market of 45 billion dollars, or 9% of the platform's volume.

Apple specifies that out of the 519 billion dollars in sales and billings generated by the App Store, over 85% of income is repaid to third party suppliers.

Investors seem to be focusing on this good news rather than the EU's investigations, with the share up over 2.5% at 352 dollars in early trading on Wall Street.
