Alphabet: EU fines Google in Android case

(CercleFinance.com) - Alphabet's Google was fined 4.
3 billion euros by the European Commission on Wednesday for using Android apps and services to maintain the dominance of its search engine.

The executive arm of the European Union said the US online giant had imposed restrictions on Android device manufacturers and network operators to ensure that traffic on Android devices goes to the Google search engine.

This is illegal under EU antitrust rules, it said.

Google must now effectively bring the conduct to an end within 90 days or face penalties of up to 5% of the average daily worldwide turnover of Alphabet, Google's parent company, the Commission said.
