Google: to offer other search engines on Android
(CercleFinance.com) - In fact, Google had no choice in the matter.
In order to comply with European laws, the US internet giant had to offer other search engines for users of its mobile operating system, Android.
Alphabet group's main subsidiary has unveiled the "lucky" ones. For France, these are Qwant, DuckDuckGo and Info.com. As from 2020, when configuring a new smartphone, users will be able to choose a different search engine to the traditional Google.
The list of alternative services offered will be renewed regularly. Google has actually set up a system of "auctions" by periods, to determine for each country the list of engines offered to Android users.
