Ericsson: plans to build first 'smart factory' in US
(CercleFinance.com) - Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson said on Wednesday that it plans to build its first fully-automated "smart factory" in the US next year to support 5G deployments.
The state-of-the-art factory will produce advanced antenna system radios to boost network capacity and coverage, including rural coverage, as well as 5G radios for urban areas, Ericsson said.
While its location is still unknown, the company wants the factory to be operational in early 2020.
Ericsson said it is also accelerating the launch of smart manufacturing processes in its existing factories in Estonia, China and Brazil.
