Ahold Delhaize: launches program to explore use of robots
(CercleFinance.com) - Ahold Delhaize is teaming up with Dutch university TU Delft on a robotics research program aiming to explore how robots can be used in the retail industry.
Under the terms of the deal, a team of international researchers will explore solutions that can be applied throughout the retail supply chain, from warehouses to stores, the Dutch supermarket group said.
At the test site, which is set to be operational in early 2019, researchers will explore how robotic grippers can handle items, such as fruit and vegetables, or how to improve image-recognition of products and packaging.
Ahold Delhaize also said that Selma Postma, Albert Heijn Online's general manager, has been appointed to the role of president of its online grocery shopping unit Peapod, effective as of 2019.
