PostNL: warns of headwinds after quarterly profit falls

(CercleFinance.com) - Dutch postal company PostNL warned of "increasing headwinds" after its operating profit fell in the third quarter.

The shares have fallen by up to 7.2% to 1.95 euro in trading on Monday morning.

The current challenges resulting from ongoing global economic pressure include continuing lower growth rate in some customer segments at its parcels business, the group said.

Its profit from continuing operations fell to 13 million in the past quarter, from 19 million euros in the same period a year ago.

Revenue also fell, to 636 million euros from 638 million euros in the third quarter of 2018.

For 2019, PostNL confirmed that it expected underlying cash operating income of between 170 million euros and 200 million euros.

When adjusted for the impact of the newly-acquired Sandd, operating income is expected to be between 150 million euros and 180 million euros, it said.
