Airbus: selected for Canadian tanker tender

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus announced on Thursday that it had qualified for Canada's tender to replace its military transport and refuelling aircraft.

The European aircraft manufacturer has been selected by the Canadian government as the bidder for the project, which aims to replace a fleet of Airbus A310 MRTT "multi-role" tanker aircraft operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Airbus says its A330 MRTT has been identified as capable of meeting the project's requirements, which is now set to move to the next stage with a draft tender expected in the third quarter.

The Canadian specifications detail that the selected aircraft must be a "multi-role" aircraft capable of performing a wide range of missions, from air-to-air refuelling to strategic lift and medical evacuation.

Airbus points out that its MRTT is already operated by several of Canada's key NATO allies, such as Australia and the UK.
