Airbus: Lufthansa orders 20 Airbus A350-900 planes

(CercleFinance.com) - Lufthansa has announced the order of 20 Boeing 787-9 and 20 Airbus A350-900 long-haul aircraft.

Management said that the group is constantly upgrading its long-haul fleet and today approved the purchase of 40 state-of-the-art aircraft for its airlines.

The additional 20 Boeing 787-9 and 20 Airbus A350-900s will mainly replace twin-engined aircraft. The new aircraft will be delivered between late 2022 and 2027.

The order represents a 12 billion dollar investment at list prices. The companies have agreed not to disclose the actual purchase price.

Carsten Spohr, Luftuansa's chairman and CEO said that besides the profitability of these aircraft, a significant reduction in CO2 emissions was also a key factor in the group's decision to buy the planes, citing its environmental commitments.
