Airbus: expects global fleet to have doubled in 20 years

(CercleFinance.com) - According to its new forecasts for 2018-2037, Airbus estimates that the global fleet of passenger aircraft will more than double to 48,000 aircraft in 20 years, with air traffic increasing by 4.
4% p.a., resulting in a demand for 37,390 new aircraft.

"Growth drivers include private consumption increasing 2.4 times in emerging economies, higher disposable incomes and a near doubling of the middle classes globally," Airbus explained.

It added that out of the 37,390 new passenger and cargo aircraft needed, 26,540 will meet growth needs and 10,850 will replace older aircraft that are less efficient in terms of fuel consumption.
