STMicroelectronics: approved for e-SIM customisation

(CercleFinance.com) - The STMicroelectronics Group today announced that it has obtained GSMA (GSM Association) accreditation for the loading of login details (certificates and operator profiles) into e-SIM chips before their shipment.

STMicroelectronics says it is "the first integrated circuit manufacturer" to be accredited.

The e-SIM (for embedded SIM) is a SIM card that integrated into a device (mobiles, tablets or connected objects). With an e-SIM, it is no longer necessary to insert a physical SIM card to make calls and use connections to the mobile network.

"The eSIMs, customized with connection credentials, enable smaller form factors, greater security, and increased flexibility. Chip-scale, permanently embedded, and electronically reprogrammable, eSIMs save space inside smartphones for extra features or battery capacity, while enabling different types of connected devices in tiny form factors for an expanding range of markets and applications," explains STMicroelectronics.
