Unilever: buys UK-based herbal tea maker Pukka.

(CercleFinance.com) - Unilever has bought Pukka, a UK-based maker of organic herbal teas, it said on Thursday, with this acquisition being its most recent attempt to boost slowing growth with dynamic brands.

Bristol-based Pukka Herbs was founded in 2001 by Tim Westwell and Sebastian Pole and produces 100%-certified, organic and ethically sourced ingredients.

In the past months, Unilever has decided to divest slow-growing food businesses, such as spreads, to focus on recently-acquired brands like Seventh Generation, a US maker of plant-based detergents and household cleaners.

The financial terms of today's deal were not disclosed, although Unilever said Pukka has a turnover of over 30 million pounds and benefits from growth of around 30%.
