Spotify: acquisition of 'live' audio specialist
(CercleFinance.com) - Spotify announced on Tuesday that it is going to acquire Betty Labs, the owner of Locker Room, a live chat app for sports fans.
The Swedish online music giant notes that the deal will enable it to enter the live audio market, in line with its strategy to develop "new formats" for listening.
In a statement, Spotify says it intends to broaden the platform's user base by expanding it to include songwriters, musicians and podcasters, who will also be able to offer their fans real-time chats, debates and Q&A sessions.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
