Sony: to takeover EMI for 2.3 billion dollars

(CercleFinance.com) - Sony Corporation today announces that it has reached an agreement with the investment fund Mubadala, for its acquisition of the music publisher EMI Music.


The deal amounts to the tune of 2.3 billion dollars, or about 2 billion euros.

Singers such as Queen, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Pink, Pharrell Williams and Calvin Harris all feature in EMI's catalog.

Kenichiro Yoshida, President and CEO, Sony Corporation said: "We are thrilled to bring EMI Music Publishing into the Sony family and maintain our number one position in the music publishing industry. The music business has enjoyed a resurgence over the past couple of years, driven largely by the rise of paid subscription-based streaming services."
