Eni: partners Rina to promote decarbonisation
(CercleFinance.com) - Eni announces that it has signed an agreement with Rina, an international company specialising in inspection, certification and engineering consultancy, to jointly develop initiatives that can contribute to the energy transition and decarbonisation of their respective operations - particularly shipping.
More specifically, the agreement covers the use of HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) biofuel produced by Eni at its Venice and Gela biorefineries, as well as other energy carriers such as "blue" or "green" hydrogen and ammonia of biogenic origin, in the naval sector.
The partnership also includes the development of logistics and value chain initiatives for the new energy carriers, and the adoption of certified methods for the "taxonometric" calculation of the emissions benefits they will generate.
Finally, Eni and RINA will also consider conducting experiments and pilot schemes related to the on-board capture of CO2 emissions to further contribute to the pursuit of sustainability objectives in the naval sector.
