Eni: Italian court accepts agreed sanctions

(CercleFinance.com) - As part of the investigation into some of Eni's activities in Congo, the Milanese judge in charge of preliminary investigations has accepted the proposal of agreed sanctions presented by the prosecutor, Eni said today.

On 18 March, the Italian oil company said that it had agreed to pay the sum of 11.8 million euros to avoid legal proceedings, even though the charge of alleged corruption in this case had been dropped.

Eni now confirms that it is pleased that the Milan court has confirmed that there was no international corruption. This decision has enabled the settlement to be established, which has been approved today, Eni says.

The company would like to make it clear that this agreement does not constitute an admission of guilt and that this transaction is intended to avoid the continuation of legal proceedings that would result in significant additional expenses.

Although it seems to be off the hook, the Eni share was down about 2% at lunch on Thursday.
