Eni: makes new oil discovery in the Barents Sea

(CercleFinance.com) - Italy's oil and gas major Eni has made a new oil discovery in the western Barents Sea, as part of a license operated by Norway's Equinor.

The new discovery was made through an exploration located a few kilometres north of the Johan Castberg field that was drilled in water depth of 409 meters.

Eni has a 30% stake in the project, while Equinor holds 50%.

The Italian group also said that it has signed with Algeria's Sonatrach an agreement that will see Eni take a 49% stake in three concessions in the onshore North Berkine basin.

At the Algeria Future Energy Summit in Algiers today, Eni also signed signed two agreements with France's Total, including an exclusive partnership for the Algerian offshore, a virtually unexplored geological province.
