Generali: accounts continue to improve

(CercleFinance.com) - The improvement in Generali's accounts continued in Q1 and the group considers the rest of 2018 "with optimism".


In Q1, gross premiums issued by the insurer from Trieste rose by 2.5% to 18.6 billion euros, driven by the Life segment (+3%), with +1.4% in P&C.

Despite payouts for natural disasters, operating income of the Property & Casualty division rose significantly (+14.1%), while that of life insurance stagnated (-0.5%). The group's operating result therefore increased by 4.9% to 1.25 billion euros, which leveraged net income (+8.6% to 581 million euros).

In Property & Casualty, the combined ratio (claims on premiums) improved by 1.6% to an outstanding 91.4%, and the group highlighted excellent profitability in new life insurance business. Finally, the regulatory economic solvency ratio reached 233%.
