Vodafone: EC approves Italian pylon deal
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission says it has authorised plans to merge Telecom Italia and Vodafone's telecommunications pylon activities in Italy.
The European executive specifies, however, that authorisation is subject to compliance with a series of commitments from Telecom Italia and Vodafone, which must agree to rent space on these antenna.
Their joint venture - called "INWIT" - will indeed have to provide, under "reasonable and non-discriminatory" terms, free space on 4000 pylons in Italian towns of over 35,000 inhabitants, on which telecom operators will be able to install and use the equipment enabling them to provide mobile and landline services, Brussels says.
