Rolls-Royce is leading a consortium working on the design of a low-cost nuclear power plant known as the Small Modular Reactor (SMR).
Its manufacturing process and standardised, factory-built components reduce costs, while its rapid assembly avoids costly schedule disruptions.
Exelon Generation will use its operational experience to assist Rolls Royce in the development and deployment of an SMR in the UK.
The consortium is working with the UK government to ensure that a fleet of factory-built nuclear power stations, each providing 440 MW of electricity, will be operational in the next ten years, thereby helping the UK meet its emission reduction obligations.
