Rolls-Royce: still penalised by the Trent 1000

(CercleFinance.com) - The biggest faller in the FTSE 100 index today, the Rolls-Royce share is down over 3% in London, with the British engine maker meeting further difficulties with its Trent 1000 turbofan engine.

We already knew that this new generation engine, which equips the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, amongst other planes, is facing accelerated wear of some parts, including high-pressure turbine blades.

Rolls-Royce is addressing the problem by replacing these parts with greater maintenance efforts, although it has also decided to accelerate the replacement of some intermediate pressure turbine blades. The group therefore now believes that all these operations will not be complete on the Trent 1000 in the second quarter of 2020.

That being said, Rolls-Royce is maintaining the previous estimate of the cost of these operations.
