Shell: starts production at Gulf of Mexico platform
(CercleFinance.com) - Shell has started production at a floating production system in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico months ahead of schedule, the Anglo-Dutch oil giant said late on Thursday.
The Appomattox platform, which was also brought online far under budget, has an expected production of 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), the company said.
Thanks to better design, fabrication, and drilling execution, the project has made cost reductions of over 40% since final investment decision was taken in 2015, Shell said.
