Shell: chooses Microsoft for AI platform
(CercleFinance.com) - Shell has selected Microsoft as the provider of an artificial intelligence (AI) platform intended to improve operational performance across its upstream and downstream businesses, the companies said on Thursday.
The oil giant plans to start with predictive maintenance for hundreds of thousands of assets globally.
As part of the project, Shell has also developed a new cloud-based, deep-learning solution built on Microsoft Azure, which uses cameras and Internet of Things technology to identify safety hazards and alert employees.
Shell will also leverage three Office 365 communication apps: enterprise video service Microsoft Stream, content collaboration tool SharePoint Online and the corporate social network Yammer.
