BT: confirms FTTP fiber expansion plan

(CercleFinance.com) - BT today confirmed its plans to build FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) broadband to 20 million premises by the mid-to-late 2020s.

Offcom, the UK's telecoms regulator, this morning issued a statement (WFTMR) explaining how fixed telecoms access services will be regulated over the next five years, from 1 April 2021, BT reports.

"A major focus of the statement sets out how Ofcom will stimulate next generation Fibre to the Premises (“FTTP”) broadband investment across the UK," BT says.

BT believes Ofcom's document is "broadly in line with the expectations laid out at our Q3 2020/21 financial results and, when taken as a whole, will allow BT to earn a fair return on its c.£12 billion FTTP investment”.

Despite this, the BT share is down almost 1% on Thursday morning, in a very flat market in London.
