AstraZeneca: vaccine limited to seniors in Germany

(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's standing committee on vaccination (STIKO) yesterday announced that it had decided to recommend AstraZeneca's Covid vaccine only to people aged 60 and over.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, the commission justified its decision by the existence of data showing rare, but very severe thrombo-embolic side effects.

These side effects occur between four and 16 days after vaccination, mainly in people under 60 years of age, the STIKO said.

On the issue of administering the second dose to younger adults who have already received a first dose of AstraZeneca's vaccine, the commission plans to issue a new recommendation by the end of April.

AstraZeneca shares are down around 0.5% in early trading on the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
