Astrazeneca: vaccine partially suspended in Canada

(CercleFinance.com) - Health Canada announced on Monday that it has decided to stop recommending the use of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine in younger adults until more information is available on its risk/benefit profile.

In a statement, the authority explains that the National Advisory Committee on Immunisation (NACI) recommends a "pause" in vaccination with AstraZeneca's product in people under 55 years of age because of thrombotic events reported in Europe.

Health Canada cites a "precautionary principle" until clinical data on the vaccine's adverse effects become available.

The health authority says that to date it is not aware of any serious side effects from the vaccine, despite the fact that it has been administered to a large proportion of the population.

AstraZeneca shares were down about 0.7% on the London Stock Exchange on Tuesday morning following this news, with the market actually up about this.
